Yoinks the Rabbit

Yoinks is my first stray-sock creature. I'm dabbling in hand sewing and I'm finding it surprisingly soothing. With the exception of the times I jab my hand with a needle.

Talk to your kids - they are hilarious.

Painted a pirate-y sign for our themed neighborhood picnic. Jack Sparrow even showed up. Acrylic paint on stained scrap 1/4" plywood.

Snap Shot - Snapper laying eggs

It's egg-laying season again for the turtles. We have to keep an eye out for trutles crossing the road. They lay their eggs on dry land, often a good distance from the water. We have snappers and painted, probably others. The snapping turtles get pretty big. The one pictured was about 18 inches tail to head. Luckily, they are as shy as they are hazardous. Lots of swimming in the lake and no turtle attacks ;)

I took this picture last year. She picked a spot where we had just had a stump ground out. We kept an eye out, but never saw hatchlings.

Ronald McDonald Deserves a Break Today

There is a group that wants McDonalds to drop Ronald as their spokes-clown. Made me think of this doodle of mine from 2005.

Fun fact: The very first Ronald McDonald was created and played by Willard Scott, later of ABC's The Today Show fame.

Death Panels Indeed.

Conservative pundits and Republicans in congress adopted an "ends justify the means" approach to defeating health care. Now that they did not achieve their ends, it's even clearer that there is no justification for their cynical fear mongering.

Pappou-Palooza

My Dad had this 2.5 inch by 1.5 inch snapshot of his father (my grandfather, or Pappou in Greek) in his wallet for years. Years ago I took a crack at cleaning it up a little.

Scanning the original at 1200 dpi, playing with the levels and doing some strategic clean up of the most distracting blemishes I was able to get the above as an 8 x 10. My grandfather passed away long before I was born. I feel a little more connected to him having spent the time cleaning up his photo.

Cleaning up some papers, found this doodle. As I recall, someone was talking about making yarn and this image came to mind. Made me smile when I saw it again, thought I'd share.

Michigan Will Rise Again

Michigan has been hardest hit by the economic tsunami battering our nation. I see entrepreneurial life boats like this all the time which give a smile and boost hopes for our state.

Fooling Around with Clay

I keep a kneaded art eraser at my desk. For years I have absent-mindedly sculpted the eraser while on the phone, waiting for downloads etc. With summer upon us I decided to order 25lbs of modeling clay so the kids and I can try our hands at sculpture. I chose the Stonex White Clay from Dick Blick and it seems to be working well. It air dries, dries white, and can accept acrylic and other paints.

Precipitous Pointillism

Drove up to the house the other evening and saw the kids had left their bikes out. It was lightly sprinkling. Thought the Monet-cycle left on the driveway after I moved the son's bike was pretty cool. Click image to enlarge.

Night Lights

A thunder storm rolled by last night. I was trying to get a lightning bolt. Instead, I got a fun orange glow in the sky from lightning back-lighting the night sky in my long-exposure shots. Click the image to see it bigger.
